Rainy season and bad weather of late is causing many people to fall sick. Poor hub is down with influenza (flu) since last week and is still on the road to recovery. Unlike the common cold, the actual flu virus can cause quite a lot of damage.

I was feeling a bit under the weather first. Started with a touch of fever and sniffing. But, it all left after 3 days… (See – I am not such a tofu after all. Hehehe…) However, hub continues to have high fever on and off. It was really frustrating as this makes him really weak and tired out. Finally, after 4 days in this condition, we went to the hospital to get him checked.

Initially, we were worry it might be dengue. But, the ER doctor on duty say that since there were no red-spots on his body, he doesn’t think that was it. So, he propose hub do a test for influenza on top of the blood test.

After 2 hours, hub is diagnosed with influenza type B. Phew… Doctor says this strain is not too bad as it is quite common but since hub is having fever hovering at 39-40… He propose hub be admitted. Doc say not to worry too much since hub is not detected for influenza type A (which supposedly is where the H1N1 strain from). Hub stubbornly refused to be admitted to the hospital… So, I was put in charge of taking care of this mule ! (Yes – you read it right. stubborn MULE !)

It’s not easy for hub as he keeps throwing up on his medication at night. He say its the anti-viral pill which is making him vomit. It freaked me out. But at least after one day of the anti-viral, his fever broke. But, his other symptoms still persist. Sigh…

So, I force him to keep a really bland diet during the weekend.

Started him off with a cup of redoxon the minute he wakes up (to boast his Vitamin C / immune system). Then, follow by mince pork and diced carrot porridge for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, I made him some Mee-Hoon (rice noodle) with chopped cabbage in chicken broth soup. And before going to bed, I ask him to take one more bowl of porridge. In between all this, he drinks plentiful water. I also make him honey lemon for his sore throat. And, force him to gulp down it down (he HATES honey – I don’t know why. How can anyone hate honey?!)

Hoorah…hubby manage to keep his medicine in for now. He stop vomiting !!! yay !!! I pray that God will help hub to recover fully soon.

Infection Magnet

Chulet a.k.a Tofu has been suffering from all sort of infection during the last 3 weeks.
Hence, the lack of post in her blog.
 
Right after her H1N1 scare, this little Chulet was happy that the flu is just the ever common seasonal flu.
It took almost a week to get rid of the irritating cough, sore throat and blocked nose.
When it seems all is going to be ok, Chulet woke up with the conjunctivitis ! sighh…
 
So, it is back to camping at home with watery-blurry red eyes and a little cough here and there.
After 4 – 5 days, the redness went down. The sticky-disgusting is almost gone (eye lid sticking tight when I wake up in the morning)
 
When Chulet thought the worst is over, she suddenly went deaf on her left ear… Sigh.
Went to the clinic.. Doctor found that chulet having ear infection. sob sob.. WHY ??!! Why me !!??
 
Thankfully, after taking anti-biotics for 4 days, my ears are functioning again… HOORahh…
 
Few days later, Chulet started sneezing non-stop in office. By the time, she left work for home..
Her nose is red from the constant blowing and her throat sore too…
That night, she starting coughing and sneezing so bad that she didn’t sleep the whole night.
Thinking that it is lack of vitamins, she starting taking vitamin C and drinking plentiful water.
 
2 days later, the sneezing has not stop !! the coughing got worst.. so bad that Chulet develops headache.
Went to clinic, Doctor check and found that the problem is because I am allergic to dust !!!! ( HorroR !!!)
IF I am allergic to dust, how am I doing to survive ? There’s dust everywhere !!!!
The imagine of Hamster running around in clear plastic balls popped into my mine.. NooooNOOO !!!!!!
 
Doctor calm chulet down to explain that it is quite similar to Hay-Fever and there’s medication I can take to take away the allergy…
Phhhewww…. He explain that in some really serious case, I will need to take a jap to rid myself of dust-allergy.
WOWWww.. a vacine for dust? I guess it is the same like shots available for people who are allergic to cats / dogs.
 
Anyway, after taking these medication for like 4 days now, I am indeed feeling better.
Cross my fingers that this will be the END of Chulet Infection Magnet..
 

Old School remedies for Sore Throat / Flu … ^O^

Oink oink.. Chulet is sick.

It is so HOT !! and Hazy lately!! Spending a short time in the open air is such a torture. Chulet is suffering from a really bad sore throat and nose block after a short 30-minutes chat outside the office yesterday. 

The sore throat got worst after dinner. Nose block was so bad that I had to breath throught my mouth which gets it dry and irritated my throat. Now, Chulet is coughing also. Sigh… 

A few advice given to Chulet are such as:

 

1)      Drink more water

(Chulet : OO.. mummy say honey is good… so, all the water I take now is slightly honey-ed)

 

2)      Sipping warm salted water before and after sleep

 (Chulet : Hate it but it seems to work really well, especially before sleeping)

 

3)      One dosage of Redoxon effervescent (Concentrated Vitamin C + zinc) every morning

(Chulet : YUMmm… fizzy orangy drink. I like !! can I have more? Will I get oversode?)

 

4)      Stay away from fried / oily / spicy food

(Chulet : Sobb sob.. Do I have to?)

 

5)      No COLD drinks / food

(Chulet : I’ll try ..T_T )

 

6)      Stay in-door

(Chulet : Yay..MC !! MC !!!  NO.. Bad Bad.. Chulet.. chulet must go to work. )

 

7)      Supposedly having capsicum juice helps.

(Chulet : Haven’t tried that – not sure if I want to try it)

 

8)      Boil coke with ginger and lemon

(Chulet found that this drink is quite a norm in Hong Kong)

 

9)      Covering face with towel over a bowl of steaming hot  water and breath. Helps to clear the block nose after 10 minutes and sooth the throat a little.

(Chulet tried and love this.. felt like a mini-just on the face-spa.. hehehhee)

 

10)  IF you are still suffering after 3 days. PLEASE GO SEE a doctor

 (Chulet : NOoooNo.. don’t want !! don’t take me there.. NOOnOOOO )
