Because of its location, this restaurant screams tourist trap! But, do I care? NO…

I love this place.Cafe de la Paix

Smack right next to the Opera metro station, it is so convenient to reach this restaurant. This restaurant is usually quite full during dinner time. I think it’s from the theatre-doing crowd. So, do call in to make reservation in advance to ensure a pleasant start to your evening. (I hate waiting in a line). OR, like hubby and me, we usually dine REALLY (for European standard) – early around 6:30pm.

I absolutely love the tall romantic columns and classy finishing of this place. The service here is great – maybe a tad slow sometimes because of the crowd. But, if you are enjoying yourself in such an amazing environment, whey rushes dinner? Sit back, relax and enjoy each other company!

Waiting to be seated

From our seat

Aside from the usual French fare, Café de la Paix also serves seafood platter. And, if you know me… you will know I NEVER say no to seafood platter. Since it’s just the 2 of us, and we had a rather late lunch, we decide to just order their Plateau “Café de la Paix”.

Look at the AWESOME fresh seafood. Nom nom nom…  I will let the pictures speaks for itself. How can anyone resist this?! Freshly shucked Oysters of few varieties, Fresh Clams, Baby prawns, langoustine, brown crab (tourteau) and sea snails (bulot). You can’t spot some of them because it’s hidden beneath the langoustine. But, hub and I was seriously stuffed after all that.

Langoustine

If you want your own combinations, feel free to let them know. They have tons of fresh seafood on display outside their window.

Bountiful Seafood Oyster Galore

This place definitely remains my favourite whenever I drop by Paris. But do take note, this place is not cheap. But, I think it’s worth the experience… And, if you do drop by Paris on a romantic holiday – why not?! 😉

Altstadt, Dusseldorf, Fischhaus, Germany, Lobster, Oyster, paella, restaurant, seafood

Fischhaus – One of my favourite restaurants whenever I am in Dusseldorf. It’s located along Berger Strasse in the old town, Altstadt (it is quite convenient to get here if you are well verse with the Germany complicated train system…Hehehe.)

This place is always packed during dinner. And, if there is any international show / exhibition on-going in the city, forget about going there unless you have made reservation in advance.

My trick is to head straight to Fischhaus 1 or 2 days before the exhibition start or when the show is over.

The restaurant is open from 11:30am to 12 mid-nights (everyday). If you can ran off for a nice long lunch (which I don’t since I’m usually there for work…), you can try going there for lunch or have early dinner to avoid the crowd.

Original französische Fischsuppe (EUR 7,50) Fish soup

Plateau de fruits de mer “Fischhaus” (EUR23,50) Fresh Seafood platter Gegrillter Tintenfisch (EUR 14,50) Grilled octopus

Hummerpfanne Fischhause auf Safran-Reis (EUR23,50) Lobster pan with saffron rice

They also serve the traditional paella (don’t remember price)

And my all time favourite Oysters!!! (I usually just check with them which type of oyster is really fresh and what style of cooking they recommend)

Thanks to Innovative Baker for introducing this place to me. 🙂 That’s me and her catching up… hub took a picture of us without us realising it. hehehee…

No… the three of us didn’t eat all these food. hehhee.. it’s just a collection of dishes I have tried and like in this restaurant over some time.

Gurney food court, ho chien, Oyster, Penang, pork satay, rojak, sotong bakar

After having our meal at Joo Hooi Café, it was only about 4:30pm. So, we took a short stroll along Campbell Street and were disappointed that almost all the shop was closed. We were trying to hunt for the famous kaya butter toast which was suppose to be at one of the small lane along this road. Unfortunately, they are close on Saturday. Since it was about 5:30pm then, we decided to head down to Anjung Gurney.

This open air food court is almost toward the end of Gurney Drive. Most stall starts around 6pm and crowd will start pouring in around 6:30pm.

We manage to find a ‘rockstar’ park thanks to J’s sharp eyes! If you’ve been there, you will understand how hard it is for non-local to find parking here.

After settling down on 2 tables, most of us ran off to find food. Hub and I return with the ‘famous’ pasembur rojak (this guy sings and dance while he prepare your food to the loud music he has blasting from his stall. Actually the only word I hear is him chanting rojak-rojak most of the time).

Other stuff we ordered

fried oyster omelette (O-chien) – it was ok only. We only found out later the really good one is suppose to be from Stall 84.

Pork Satay – oo… so yummy. Thumbs up !

Sotong Bakar – really nice and crispy and pack with the sotong (squid) taste.

After our meal, we took a stroll along the sea side. What a nice way to finish a meal.
