It was a blessing that I get to spend Mother’s Day this year with mum. Normally we would find each other in different continent. So, for mother’s day this year, I decided to prepare my family an elaborate dinner.

Surprisingly, mum was more than happy to surrender her kitchen to me. Normally, it’s pretty hard to convince her to let me use her kitchen because she always say I make a huge mess and she need to clean it up after. LOL.

Being in Melbourne makes it easier for me to hunt for great and fresh ingredients (you can get almost anything from Vic Mart). I had some ideas what I would like to prepare for dinner but I was still playing around the menu in my head. I prefer to look what are the freshest products that morning before deciding the dishes I would like to prepare.

While in the deli section of Vic Mart, I saw a huge varieties of cheeses. It was amazing. After discussing with the lady boss, we finally settle on some locally made goat’s cheese. The texture was really smooth and creamy with a mild after taste. She also told me that it’s a good melting cheese.

So, ta-da… May I present, Goat’s cheese toasted on baguette. I marinated the cheese with some olive oil, sprinkle of salt and pepper, fresh thyme and tarragon, and drizzle with some honey lemon. The combination of taste was so really good.

Toasted bread with Goat CheeseFor Mains, I made cold basil beef and Magret de canard à l’orange (Duck in orange sauce). Nom nom nom… I am salivating looking at these pictures. LOL.

Cold basil beef

Magret de canard à l'orangeBoth mains are convenient as I can per-prepare in advance. That way, I can kick-back and relax before the dinner and not look like I have slave away in the kicthen the whole day. ;p The orange sauce turns out so beautiful. It’s the orange I tell you ! These babies are pack with real ‘orange’ smell and taste, unlike the oranges I get back in KL.

For sides, I made Pommes Anna (forgot to take picture of this one – must check if my sis took ’em)

Pommes Anna

and mum prepared Avocado Salad with toasted walnut and pine nut drizzled with light vinaigrette dressing.

Avocado Salad with toasted walnut and pine nut drizzle with light vinaigrette dressingWhat an awesome meal with great company. We end the meal with dessert. And, the best dessert is ice-cream. My beastie (Ms. SL) kindly brought over a tub of New Zealand ice cream which all of us just dig in from the box. hehehe.

ICE CREAM !!!

On top of that, we manage to get hold of some amazing bubbly during our trip to Yarra Valley a few days back from Yerring Estate and Domaine Chandon. Yummilicious !

dinner, green coral, Roast Pork, salad, Wraps

I thought my work will tone down after a month or 2 of peak period. But, it’s now stretching to almost 3 months already. And I don’t foresee it lightening for April either. Sob sob.

Even with tiring hectic schedule, I try to cook whenever I can. Why? Because it helps me to de-stress. LOL… I know it’s weird. The only thing I hate is the washing up. But, hubby generously offers to wash up after dinner because he knows I am stressed out. Thank dear!

Since I am quite tired myself, I try to keep the cooking to a very simple meal. The Roast pork wrap is simply one of my favourite. It’s so easy, it only took less than 15 minutes to prepare, cook and serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 shallots
  • 8 cloves of garlic
  • 3 bird eye’s chilies
  • 1 box of Roast pork (about 2 servings)

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon sweet sauce (hoisin sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar

Diced finely the shallots, garlics and chilies and fry them until fragrant.

Stir Fry the condimentsThe main STAR of the nightAdd the roast pork and stir in the sauces (I usually mix the sauces together first) and give it a good stir-fry until every piece is coated evenly. le Sauce Just prepare some big leafy salad (I prefer to use green coral) and cucumber ribbons (Just use the vege peeler and slice across). It’s ready to be served. Dinner !!!

Plopped in front of TV and enjoy a good comedy while chomping down my dinner and sipping on peach cider. Great way to unwind… after a long hard day.

Anniversary dinner, cilantro, dinner, fine dining, KL, Micase suite

If you are looking for a nice romantic quiet fine dining place, this is it. I simply love the clean elegance of this place. Not to mention, their staff are super friendly and always approach our table with a big smile. Hence, this was our first pick to celebrate our Anniversary.

Over the years, this restaurant has never fail to serve good quality consistent taste meal. (Can’t say it’s the same for the portion – I remember it was a much bigger serving previously. Personally, I don’t really mind with the smaller portion as long as the quality is still there).

Customary bread and truffle butter (I still think Cilantro serves the BEST truffle butter in all the restaurant I’ve been to). Followed by the Amuse bouche.

Butter with truffles Amuse bouche

A lot of people will be shock when they see how my family eats western food, but, I think it’s a much more interesting way. We ordered 3 sets of the 4 course meal to share between the 4 of us. That way, we get to taste everything! I Love the appetizers in Cilantro and we had 6 plates of it! (yay… jumping with joy).

Here we go…

Ebi Carpaccio 02

Oyster Chaud-Froid with Kinome Risotto of Tarabagani with Saffron Terrine of Chapon with Lobster Unagi with Foie Gras and Mesclun 02 Wagyu Tartare with Egg Mollet

Like i say… I LOVE their appetizer. How can you not? Look at it !!! It’s fantastic. My favourite would have to be the Risotto and the Wagyu Tartare.

For mains, we had

Milk Fed Lamb Rack with Houba Miso Confit of Loire Poussin with Truffle 02 2 Way Preparation Wagyu with Asparagus 02Yes – the portion is surprisingly small for mains. I am quite surprise as I remember it used to be more than this. Anyway, good news is the taste is still good. My favourite would have to be the spring chicken (poussin).

Dessert and coffee time !!! There’s always room for dessert…

Soufflé Rhubard Mascarpone Cake with Apricot Sorbet Feuillantine of Chestnut Creme Brûlée 02 Expresso (2)Great meal. Great wine. Great company. This is life… !
