To me, Geneva exude a very peaceful and calm ambiance pretty much like any other big European town. Mostly everyone we meet here speaks french. Our friend told us that we are lucky since we arrive during the non-peak season. Our friend kindly brought us around the town.

Before that, we stroll along the park by the river. It was beautiful. With the trees turning color and a comfortable cooling breeze. Strolling by the Park along the LakeLake ViewSwans by the LakeBe careful not to hang around near to these majestic swans. They do jump out of the water and chase after you. ;p

After several hours of walking, I was super tired (since we just landed on that day itself!!!) and hungry. Unfortunately, it was only around 4pm and seems a little early for dinner.

So, our friend propose we try this little “bieres artisanales” pub in the town. How can one resist that?! We quickly made our way to the brasserie du Molard.

Brasserie du MolardThey have 3 types of in-house brewed beer – Blonde, Blanche, and Amber. We only ordered 2 types – Blanche and Amber. While we wait for our order, I was so amazed by the huge and beautiful copper vessels which brew the beer. Unfortunately, my pictures were all not so good and blurry. So, I’m not able to post it here.

Beer Menu Our beersAnd beer always goes better with some food (not to mention, I was extremely hungry by then). We  ordered some pizza. It was delicious… or maybe I was just too hungry. Hohoho…

Pizza to go with the beerAfter that, we continue to stroll around the town and I was busy salivating at all the beautifully hand crafted chocolates displayed by the windows. It’s so gorgeous! Almost wanted to buy everything on display. hahaha…

Weekend was nightmare.

I was so looking forward to having a relaxing weekend (since it was the only weekend in the whole of July which was not occupy for anything).

Unfortunately, I woke up on Saturday with a bad throbbing. Already my heart sink to the floor. It has been ages since my last migraine and I almost forgotten how bad it can be. Being a migraine sufferer since I was 12, the start of throbbing on one side of my head was nightmare to me. When I was younger, my parents couldn’t understand why my headaches are so severe that I could stay vegetable for 2-3 days. Usually lights hurt, sounds makes the throbbing worst and the smell of food makes me nausea.

In the beginning, I took Panadol to relieve some pain. After some time, it no longer work and my doctor ask me to try Panadeine. When I was studying in Melbourne, the doctors there ask me to take Imigran. Later, my dad brought me to a neurologist in Singapore and the doctor gave me Zomig. Overtime, I have gotten used to carrying zomig with me wherever I go.

It was about 3 years back that my dad got me started in taking pau-sam (american ginseng). The main purpose then was to help me to be healthier. Surprisingly, my migraine episode has also gotten less and less. (the only drawback is when it attack – it can be quite bad)  I suspect it could be because after some time of not having it, my tolerance for the pain has also gone down. So, I really don’t have anyway to measure if it is really much worst. And so begins my journey of taking pau-sam and avoiding any drugs for my migraine. For me, it was already amazing that I can cut down my migraine episode from 1-2 times / month down to once every 6 months. On top of that, I try to avoid sleeping late and eating too much heaty-food.

So, it was almost 8 months since my last migraine and I forgot/ignore to avoid my triggers… and thinking back, it was a while back since I last make the pau-sam soup. I was happily chomping on durians, eating fried chicken, nasi lemak, tons of coffee, and staying up till 3 am for KTV session, and then, German beer was the last straw. The migraine was so bad I was all drained out since Saturday.

On Monday, I try to hold myself together and head to work. Half day later, the migraine is back. sigh.. I finally gave in and went to see my doctor. He comment how I have put on 5kg since Jan 2011 (before my wedding) and ask me what have I been eating. sigh… gluttony is sin, i know. I told my hub it must be food-karma. Anyway, Doc gave me Meloxicam for the migraine.  It seems that I was also having fever… sigh, No wonder I feel so hot even with the air-con on full blast.

Anyway, the medication seems to be working as I can actually start to function today. The throbbing is gone !! thank GOD (i also pray at night for God’s healing) !! I am trying to keep a slower pace on everything. It is usually easy to trigger back if I am not careful. It will be another 3-4 days before I can start functioning like normal again. Sigh…

Bavaria, beer, Munich

Day 3

The trip to Munich took about 3 hours from our hotel. For someone like me, who gets motion sickness, it was suffering.

I took 2 novomin and proceed to sleep for the whole trip. Woke up and found that we arrived into Munich, which is the capital city of upper Bavaria

(Bavaria is also one of the largest federal state in Germany).

We hop off our bus and took a short walk to our first sto, Marienplatz (central square).Marian column

Famous for the Marian column – golden Virgin Mary status to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation (Thirty Years’ war)

And also,

Glockenspiel

The  Glockenspiel (set of bells – in German) which is right outside the new city hall.

Many tourists flocks around the Marienplatz just to watch the little statues coming to life.

As far as I know, the time for viewing this are at 11am, 1pm and 5pm. But I was also told that it moves at   every hour. I was there at 5pm. So, I got to watch it.

Amazingly, the sound travels quite well and clear since I could hear it very well even with the large noisy crowd there.

Took our time walking around this area.

Couldn’t resist talking a picture of Chu-Let’s friend. Look at his post ! So stylish eh… ;o) dsc058511

Had dinner at the Hofbrauhaus (Beer House) – The crowd was crazily enjoying themselves.

Singing, Dancing, eating and Drinking away.

When you order your beer – be prepare for a 1 litre Mug !! You are suppose to hold the Mug with one hand when you drink it.

Beer House

I was also told by a local that there’s a LAW in Bavaria that company must supply their staff with beers or the company can actually be sued !! WOW … Beer lovers out there…. you know where you need to be looking for your jobs !
