Café-Café Restaurant – KL, Malaysia

It was a weekday (the exact date for our anniversary) and unplanned. Hub just decided on the spot when I meet him after work. We call café-café to check if they have a spot for 2 and off we go. Traffic was surprisingly ok and we manage to rock in there really early, before 6:45pm. The place was still empty.

Romantic-Dramatic ambience

Greeted by friendly staff and they start us off with some refreshing drinks. The place is still as pretty and romantic as I remember it. It was almost 5 years since we last come here. Hub brought me here when we were still dating. So, it was kind of sweet of him to bring me here for a quiet dinner that night.

The menu has definitely changed over the time but I still see some familiar dishes on it. We ordered their fix menu and chatted happily sipping on our wine while waiting for our food to arrive.

For starters…

Honey Truffles Prawn Foie Gras Scallop EscargotThe prawn was quite fresh. hub love it… We both like the pan sear foie gras (the portion is much smaller than it was last time). Scallop was over-cooked (sigh…) and we were abit shock by the escargot… because on the menu it mention Escargots in Ratatouille. This is Escargots à la Bourguignonne! We felt that it was a little too heavy on the garlic (and hub is a super garlic fan somemore).

For mains…

Black Angus TenderloinLamb Medallion

Black Angus Tenderlion and Lamb Medallion. Beef quality was not impressive. Lamb was ok. In fact, hub and I both preferred the condiments around that plate more than the main star itself. oh well…

Before dessert, they present us with strawberry / raspberry sorbet which was rock solid hard. lol… we were abit shock because normally sorbet we have are nice and fluffy. a tad too sweet for palate cleanser…

After that, they serve us petite four. I love the earl grey and green tea cake on the right. The cheese was so-so… the macaroons is an acquired taste (The flavor is too intense and unique, so-not-for-me). Hub almost laugh when i was struggling to not spit it out. lol. it’s definitely the most horrible macaroons flavor we have ever try. And, we have tried ALOT….

Petit Four

For dessert,

Chocolate Lava cakewe had the chocolate lava and Crème brûlée. The original fixed was tiramisu. But, I’ve taste enough tiramisu in Malaysia to know non i can find here is comparable to what I have in Europe. So, I gave up on tiramisu in Malaysia. They were nice enough to change it for us. I really like the lave cake. It’s very nicely moist and fresh. The scatter of slightly salted sesame crumbles is a very nice touch for the palette.

I can’t say that the food is great all the way. There’s definitely some hits and miss. But, we had fun and the ambiance was still romantic. Happy Anniversary dear.

If you are looking for a nice romantic quiet fine dining place, this is it. I simply love the clean elegance of this place. Not to mention, their staff are super friendly and always approach our table with a big smile. Hence, this was our first pick to celebrate our Anniversary.

Over the years, this restaurant has never fail to serve good quality consistent taste meal. (Can’t say it’s the same for the portion – I remember it was a much bigger serving previously. Personally, I don’t really mind with the smaller portion as long as the quality is still there).

Customary bread and truffle butter (I still think Cilantro serves the BEST truffle butter in all the restaurant I’ve been to). Followed by the Amuse bouche.

Butter with truffles Amuse bouche

A lot of people will be shock when they see how my family eats western food, but, I think it’s a much more interesting way. We ordered 3 sets of the 4 course meal to share between the 4 of us. That way, we get to taste everything! I Love the appetizers in Cilantro and we had 6 plates of it! (yay… jumping with joy).

Here we go…

Ebi Carpaccio 02

Oyster Chaud-Froid with Kinome Risotto of Tarabagani with Saffron Terrine of Chapon with Lobster Unagi with Foie Gras and Mesclun 02 Wagyu Tartare with Egg Mollet

Like i say… I LOVE their appetizer. How can you not? Look at it !!! It’s fantastic. My favourite would have to be the Risotto and the Wagyu Tartare.

For mains, we had

Milk Fed Lamb Rack with Houba Miso Confit of Loire Poussin with Truffle 02 2 Way Preparation Wagyu with Asparagus 02Yes – the portion is surprisingly small for mains. I am quite surprise as I remember it used to be more than this. Anyway, good news is the taste is still good. My favourite would have to be the spring chicken (poussin).

Dessert and coffee time !!! There’s always room for dessert…

Soufflé Rhubard Mascarpone Cake with Apricot Sorbet Feuillantine of Chestnut Creme Brûlée 02 Expresso (2)Great meal. Great wine. Great company. This is life… !

What an interesting month this has been! It sure has been a busy month of running around either for work or personal life.

It’s been crazy month as I have clients coming in from overseas almost every week for meetings / discussions. So, everyday after crawling home, I’ll comatose in front of the TV… It is so exhausting. Hence, I’ll stop here and not share anymore.

What I would like to share is the happier moments… hehehe.

First of all, my baby sis is back from Melbourne for 2 months holiday here. Yay!!! We had great time catching up and laughing our heads off. Miss her like crazy.

Secondly, January is also my Anniversary month! Hubby – I love you. muacks.

Lastly, we manage to enjoy some really good food at these beautiful restaurants.
