Hey guyz…
My B-I-L (brother in law) just told me that Singapore is having Le Creuset Family Sale ! So, if you have plans to be in Singapore and is shopping around for a cast iron pot, why not check this out?! :p
I did some quick calculation…
IF you manage to get Le Creuset in Singapore with about 60% discount, it’ll work out to be almost the same amount you pay in France (plus you don’t need to lug it back !!!).
And guess what?!
I’ll be in Singapore tomorrow. MUAHAHHAA…. so, I might check it out. But, probably won’t get anything…. (must resist…)
I’m super broke from my shopping spree in France. hehehe.
Actually if u get 60% off LE CREUSET it may look like a good bargain but both LE CREUSET and STAUB have increased their prices tremendously first in asia / by quite a lot. Deliberate increase the factory price is about s$20 for an item marked $200 so it is 5 times to cover marketing advertisement etc / so please take note – also they start making in china and Thailand their ceramic range…
StAub had a brilliant designer Francis STAUB so his original design series worth paying for but he sold company in 2009 to the wretched ZWILLING HENCKELS group which do crazy sales on made in china items with German branding which unwary Asians slurp up due to greed and kiasu over discounts and sales
Yes – you are right about the crazy price for these babies in Asia. But, as I mention in my blog, as long as you see a slash down of 60%, it is about the same price you would get in retail in Europe. So, it is actually a fair deal. Since you don’t need to lug them back from France. ;p As for the markup, I won’t say it’s fair since it is quite a huge markup, but, it’s fair for them to have some markup to cover logistic, tax, handling and also any other cost incur while transporting these heavy babies back to their home country to sell. Not to mention the need to pay rent, workers and also utilities for the running of their business. 🙂
Due to the high cost, I would understand why they shift their production facilities to Thailand / China. Since the consumer are always complaining about the high price of these products. 😉
I’ve seen really good product being produced from Thailand / China and even good old Malaysia. 🙂 So, I won’t be so quick to judge that just because they are from SEA, the quality is inferior… Look at the apple products like i-phone, it’s fully made and assembled in China. ;p
LOL… will you be shock if I tell you I am a fan of Zwilling knifes myself? ;p
I’ve been using this knifes since the first time I test them in Germany in 2004. LOVE them to pieces. For them to offer life-time warranty seems on their knifes seems like a bold statement to make unless they are really confident with their product. Don’t you think so?
As for Asian’s greed and kiasu over discount and sales, LOL…it’s true. But, I’ve been to a warehouse sales in Europe / USA / Australia / and many more, Let me tell you, it’s the same !!! ;p
People go crazy when they see the discount / sales sign. Have you watch Shopaholic when Becky was fighting for a pair of boots? lol… it’s exactly like that in the western country too…
