2012, 6th october, France, nuit blanche, Paris, white night

After almost 2 weeks of travelling around France (for work), i finally had the time to sit down and hopefully upload a quick post. Just learned that tomorrow is the annual Nuit Blanche in Paris.

Nuit Blanche which translate as white night, is a late-night art festival event which begins it’s roots in Nantes, France 1984. It’s so popular that soon many cities adopt this idea and have their own version of late-night cultural festival. (I read that over 120 cities in the world celebrate this now)

Interestingly eventough this event was created in France, it is only adopted in Paris from 2002.  Paris celebrates this annual event on the first saturday in october every year now.

This year, it will be on 6th October (which is tomorrow). It’ll start from 6:30pm to 5:30am the next day ! and coincidently, hub and I will be heading into Paris tomorrow morning (yay !)

Train / metro lines will be open all night thru to the next morning. And, it’s free between 2am – 5:30am (the next day). how cool is that?! And Museums are going to open their door to visitor all night long for free too. Wow.

hmm… I wonder if this means that shopping centres are also open all night long?!!! hehehe…

OOO… and for my friends and family in Melbourne, I read on wiki that Melbourne will host Australia’s first white night in 2013 !!!

till tomorrow night then. (I better get more rest tonight if I’m going to be partying all night tomorrow…Muahahaaa.)

Chamonix, France, lunch, Mont Blanc, Restaurant La Potinière

After making our way down from Mont Blanc, we decided to stop for lunch somewhere close by. Our friend brought us to this little café-like restaurant in the Chamonix town. The weather was very nice and cooling, so, we opt to dine outside.

Here, they serve the local specialties like Raclettes, Fondues and Braserades. Since our friend made these for dinner last night at his place, we decided to skip ordering these and have something else.

He recommended that we try the frog legs. (Not sure if he was trying to shock us or not when he propose that…but, when we told him we eat frog legs quite often in Malaysia too, he was surprise. Hehehe…) The legs were served in creamy cheese-like sauce on rice. I like the sauce. But, don’t like it goes very well with the legs. (In my opinion, nothing beats steam frog legs in mince garlic ginger on soya sauce)

We also had charcuterie and grill steak. It’s not bad. Normal-I guess. But, the environment and comfort during dining is definitely great. Since it’s so close to the Mont Blanc, I suspect this café would be a frequent joint for many skiers during the winter seasons. And of course, dessert for me. (wink wink)

beach, Chateau de Roquefeuille, France, Juan les Pins, parma ham, restaurant le Festival de la Mer, rockmelon, rosé, seafood platter

Juan Les Pins is a really beautiful little seaside town at the southeastern France, on the Côte d’Azur (between Nice and Cannes). During the summer, this town is pack with tourist. On the winter however, it’s a different story. Most of the shops were close and this makes it hard to locate good restaurant at night. But, I love the peaceful and quiet pace during winter in Juan-Les-Pins.

It really lovely to take a nice long stroll along the beach after dinner while enjoying the cold air. Hub likes it because he claims it’s the only exercise I do. hahaha..

Restaurant le Festival de la Mer is one of my favorite place to go for dinner here. Main Reason, I LOVE seafood !!! And if you are in a seaside town, how can you not have seafood, right? Second Reason, I love the friendly services here. Not to mention, they have english menu ! hehehee…

Ta – Da !!! Look at the huge seafood platter for 2 !!! yum yum yum… it’s so fresh and you can practically taste the sea.

We ordered a Rosé (Chateau de Roquefeuille) to go with our meal… love it. very nice after taste and went really well with the seafood.

Hub ordered the parma ham savings with rock melon. It was really good.

And also ordered Spaghetti alla vongole and Lamb with french bean.

By then, we were so stuff we couldn’t possibly try the desserts.

Sorry for the poor quality in pictures as I only use my phone camera.

Please check out their website for more details and clearer pictures. (btw, I just check their website and found that the menu is slightly different from when we ate there. Maybe they change seasonally ?)
