Deadly prank calls… DJs be responsible please!

royal prank call

Sigh.. It’s so sad reading about the London nurse Jacintha Saldanha who committed suicide in England because of prank calls made by 2 Australian DJ. The DJs pretended to be Prince Charles and the Queen to find out more about the condition of Princess Kate (who is under going treatment in that particular hospital because of her severe morning sickness). The nurse then transferred the call to the nurse in charge of Kate and gave out Kate’s medical information.

Because of this, the nurse was perhaps scolded / reprimanded? (just my guess) Whatever the reason, she must have felt really remorse about it because she committed suicide. (so sad… sob sob)

I never like prank calls. I think it’s juvenile and immature. Whenever I hear radio DJs doing prank calls / crappy calls / gotcha calls (whatever you like to call it), I switch station immediately. I don’t find it funny and I think it’s not right…Especially if it hurt / scare / anger… the recipient. Many of you might thing that it’s ok (not a big deal) since you explain later that it’s all only a hoax. But, at the moment you pull the prank, you placed someone under duress and manipulate someone’s emotion. That’s not nice at all.

In this case, someone’s life was taken. Yes – the DJs might not have literally plunge the knife to end this nurse’s life. But, they are in some way indirectly the root cause of her death. Sadly, I don’t think the DJs will be able to wipe this out from their memory and will surely continue to haunt them for the rest of their life.

I hope DJs around the world take this as a lesson and be responsible and careful with what you do / say. Please “prank responsibly” and think of the consequences. Fun is fun, but there are lines not to be crossed…

To Ms. Jacintha Saldanha’s family, my deepest condolences for your loss…

Road Warrior – I am NOT

jet setter, road warrior

It’s been a tiring 2 months plus of almost back to back traveling. Flying in and flying out. Packing and unpacking (Lucky I have enough clothes to go around without doing any laundry for 4 weeks!!!). From Cold winter to Hot tropical. From posh 5 stars to budget hotels…

I am all burnt out by last weekend when I finally touch down in KL. My traveling schedule has come to an end. Perhaps that is why, my body has finally allow itself to feel the full blown fatigue and exhaustion.

Most people always thinks that road warriors / jet setter leads such glamorous and lucky life. Perhaps they do. But, this is not without a price. Many will lose their health because of the hectic lifestyle, combine with crazy time zone and diet differences. For those who are discipline enough, they will manage it and continue to thrive being a road warrior. I really respect them a lot…

Let me tell you, traveling for work is NOT the same as leisure travel. Most road warrior have time constraint, and not to mention budget constraint (with some company). I remember once, I had to fly and cab for more than 36 hours to reach my clients office, only to dive straight in for a 5 hours meeting. At the end of that meeting, I had literally stayed awake for more than 48 hours (with some minor dozing off here and there). And, when I reach the hotel, I just crashed. That was my worst experience ever. After that, I learn my lesson. I’ll travel one day in advance to rest before heading off to any meetings. I still shudder when I think back on that.

I really respect those road warriors who can just travel non-stop all year round. How do they do it?! Whenever I need to travel, I always felt so uprooted. It’s worst when I have to stay for 3-4 days in one place and then running off back home for another 3-4 days before traveling again. It’s like home has turn into hotel as well (minus the room service).

This would means our home is always in a big mess when we travel. So, by the time we return, it will take us at least 2-3 days to sort everything out. Thankfully this round mum come to our rescue. She kindly offered to help us to ‘restore’ our messy house back to a cozy home. LOL… Thanks mum !!! love you.

I love it when I get to stay grounded and enjoy home. I think I’m too much of a home-person to ever enjoy the life of a road warrior…

My rainy day memories…

memories, rain

brr…(so cold and wet lately)

It’s the monsoon season…

It has been raining almost the WHOLE week everyday. When it rains in Malaysia… it pours like cats and dogs. It’s crazy with lighting and thunder. Just now the thunder was so powerful, I could almost felt the tremor inside my office building. yikes ! And it actually trigger our circuit breaker.

ALL the work which I was working on got cut off… and I didn’t save ! sob sob sob… sigh…

Staring out my window, watching the water trickle down brings back so much fond memories about rain.

When I was younger, I was fascinated by the rain. It was like the whole world stop moving to allow the rain to come and sooth all pain away. The pitter patter sound made on the roof is so hypnotic. I can spend hours just pressing my face on the window looking out at the puddles the rain made.

I remember once my brothers, cousins and I ran home from school during a heavy downpour. We had so much fun running in the rain and jumping on puddles (trying to get each other wet – it doesn’t really make sense now since we were all soaking wet anyway). When we reach home, we got the scolding of our life for trying to walk in the rain instead of waiting at school until it stopped. I remember mom marched us all to take a hot shower immediately, follow by a kneeling on the floor for a good 2 hours (with our hand pulling our own ears – suppose to mean that we are sorry for our action and we will listen next time).

Another time, I smuggled to a ‘special-guest invited’ school event, which my cousin was suppose to receive a special award. As her parents were caught overseas, she had to go alone. I (the ever kind and important cousin), agreed to accompany her. But, we were both minor (I think we were 10 years old then), I had to smuggle and hide somewhere in the school compound waiting for her (I was very timid then – and do anything she ask me to do – that big bully. ;p ). Anyway, it started raining and I had no where to hide and stay sheltered. In the end, I squeeze myself underneath a big table at the side of the building (which my cousin was in). I was cold and wet by the time she finish with her event to collect me. bleh… Yes – I still use this to blackmail her now whenever i need favors from her. MUAHAHAHAA… but, i love her very much. 🙂

This is one of my favourite memory. It was my university days. I was on the tram going to Uni when it started raining quite heavily (for Melbourne standard). I had no umbrealla with me, but, have to jump out that stop. Right after I jump out, I quickly ran to the nearest side walk shelter I can find. While I was trying to wipe myself clean, an umbrella stopped right in front of me. I look up and see this really cute guy (with glasses – I’m a sucker for man in glasses). He smile and ask If he can walk me to my lecture hall !!! I was stunned. (No – I am not hot looking or pretty. At most, some of my really close friends say i’m abit cute. lol…) He gallantly gave me more portion of the umbrella and we started chatting. When we almost reach my lecture hall, he told me he’s in his second year and I stupidly told him I’m older than him as I was in my 4th year. He was shocked. He told me that he thought I was in my first / second year. oh well, after that, he dropped me off and wave bye… LOL… it was still a damn romantic experience for me.
