Altstadt, Dusseldorf, Fischhaus, Germany, Lobster, Oyster, paella, restaurant, seafood

Fischhaus – One of my favourite restaurants whenever I am in Dusseldorf. It’s located along Berger Strasse in the old town, Altstadt (it is quite convenient to get here if you are well verse with the Germany complicated train system…Hehehe.)

This place is always packed during dinner. And, if there is any international show / exhibition on-going in the city, forget about going there unless you have made reservation in advance.

My trick is to head straight to Fischhaus 1 or 2 days before the exhibition start or when the show is over.

The restaurant is open from 11:30am to 12 mid-nights (everyday). If you can ran off for a nice long lunch (which I don’t since I’m usually there for work…), you can try going there for lunch or have early dinner to avoid the crowd.

Original französische Fischsuppe (EUR 7,50) Fish soup

Plateau de fruits de mer “Fischhaus” (EUR23,50) Fresh Seafood platter Gegrillter Tintenfisch (EUR 14,50) Grilled octopus

Hummerpfanne Fischhause auf Safran-Reis (EUR23,50) Lobster pan with saffron rice

They also serve the traditional paella (don’t remember price)

And my all time favourite Oysters!!! (I usually just check with them which type of oyster is really fresh and what style of cooking they recommend)

Thanks to Innovative Baker for introducing this place to me. 🙂 That’s me and her catching up… hub took a picture of us without us realising it. hehehee…

No… the three of us didn’t eat all these food. hehhee.. it’s just a collection of dishes I have tried and like in this restaurant over some time.

A good friend recommended this place to me during one of my trip to Dusseldorf, Germany. (Thanks Lyn !!) She told me that this restaurant serve really good Ramen and I was certainly craving for noodle and soup after days of pork, pork and more pork in Germany.

So, we took the train Oststraße and from there took a short walk to reach the restaurant.

We got there just in time for early lunch as Lyn say it is crazy during peak hours. Manage to reach there around 11:45am (and already there was a mini queue outside the restaurant). Fortunately, we manage to secure a table after 15mins of wait. Around 12:30pm, the crowd and queue got really crazy. phewww… !! Lucky we had Lyn to bring us around Dusseldorf.

I was really impressed to see many Japanese eating there. This is definitely a plus point when you are dining Japanese food. We ordered one Curry Rice, 2 Shio Ramen and another ramen which I forgot the name. And of course, how can you have Ramen without gyoza, right? (It’s like ordering steak without fries) So, we ordered 2 plates of those!!!

Overall the meal was really satisfying and authentic (considering you are eating it somewhere in Europe and not inJapan). Not to mention, it was relatively not too expensive. The bill was less than EUR 40 for the 3 of us. If you order just the noodle soup – it is about EUR 8-10 (depending on what you order). If you were to order this in Japan, it would probably come up to the same price. It is definitely one of the few restaurants that I will visit whenever I drop byDusseldorf.

Casa Gustosa, dinner, Dusseldorf, entrecote, Germany, grill prawn, steak, tomata brochette

Thanks to a great friend – Lyn for introducing hubs and me here for dinner. A quaint little shop tuck away along Nordstrasse in Dusseldorf, Germany. If you have not been looking, you would have easily walk pass this restaurant.

Once we are in, we were greeted warmly by the owner as Lyn knows him and also she speaks perfect German. Luckily, the waiter there could also speak English. Hence, hubs and I actually went back to this same restaurant 3 times during our 2 weeks stay in Dusseldorf.

Some of the dishes we tried

Tomato brochette – toasted crispy bread with freshly chopped tomatoes drenched with olive oil (heavily scented with the black olives. Best I ever had.

Goat cheese salad – it’s ok. Not exactly my cup of tea. But some would love it for the strong cheese taste.

Grill prawn Salad – love the lightly grill freshness taste of the prawn sprinkled with dash of paprika and salt for flavor.

Stuff Chicken breast with some cheese (I forgot) – hence, you know it was not a very memorable dish to me.

Now, for the highlight of the evening. The grill Entrecote – Oh la la… It is definitely the BEST steak I ever had (till date: Oct 2010)

The meat was done to perfection for medium – look at all the juice. Meat was well marbled so each bite was amazing and bursting with BEEF ! This was the main reason why i return back to this restaurant for 3 times. :p

For those of you who are around Dusseldorf area, why not drop by this restaurant and give it a try.
