The last time I went jungle trekking was probably when I was in high school (which is more than 15++ years ago!!!). So, when my oversea friends who were visiting Malaysia expressed their interest to do jungle trekking, I was excited and weary at the same time.

Excited because it was different from the norm. Most Malaysian are guilty of bringing the visiting guest to eat in practically all our favorite food / restaurant during the short 3 or 4 days here.

Weary because I am not as young as I used to. And, the only exercise strenuous exercise I do is vacuuming and mopping floor at home (which is also not very often). Another reason is the blood sucking leeches!

Awana offers 2 interesting jungle trekking trail, the Nature Trek (1.8km – an hour plus at RM 30/pax) or the Ecotrail (3.8km – 3 hours at RM 75/pax).

Guess which I convince everyone to take? Hehehe.. Yes – shorter one, of course!!!

It was really tiring at certain part but overall it was a very pleasant experience (aside from the one I walked into a low branch… and got bitten by a leech. Sob sob sob)

Look how FAT this little guy got… T_T so pain…

Restaurant Reviews?

24 Thursday May 2012

While I was checking up on the quality of some of the restaurants which I love, I come across this really interesting review (in TripAdvisor). I love checking out reviews from TripAdvisor as it is usually very helpful and accurate. Not to mention, it is quite up to date.

Since a person’s taste is very subjective, I will usually just scan thru and not make a big fuss as I believe everyone is entitle to their comments. However, I just couldn’t let go of this comment made below by a guy from Los Angeles, California this round.

“Fish soup here was some strange tasting brown watery mess. Fish soup here has no fish and it’s not fresh soup. Fish soup for 15 Euros! Waiter couldn’t explain how fish soup is an “brown” broth. We refused to eat it, fearing that we might get sick. The soup was terrible”

Unfortunately, I have never ordered fish soup in this particular restaurant. So, I am not sure how ‘bad’ is bad. But, what caught my attention was him describing it as ‘brown watery mess with no fish’. If he were to say that the soup tasted bad with foul rotting stench / too watery and etc, I would have let the comment slide.

When I read this, I literally laughed out loud.

IF he would have check up on fish soup / Soup de Poisson for the french, he will realised that it is meant to be brown watery mess. AND, most of the time, the fish meat is blended into watery mess. This is fish soup for the french.

I hate to imagine what this guy would say if he try Durian (King of fruit).

I feel very sad whenever I read comments like this. Why bother traveling to another country if you think all food is suppose to conform to your perception of food? imagine how boring the whole world will be? I am always fascinated by the diverse food enjoy by different culture in the world.

Personally, I think if you don’t feel comfortable taking it. You can always put it one side and find out more about that particular dish later. It is not fair to make non-responsible comments like this.

tsk tsk tsk.

Juan Les Pins is a really beautiful little seaside town at the southeastern France, on the Côte d’Azur (between Nice and Cannes). During the summer, this town is pack with tourist. On the winter however, it’s a different story. Most of the shops were close and this makes it hard to locate good restaurant at night. But, I love the peaceful and quiet pace during winter in Juan-Les-Pins.

It really lovely to take a nice long stroll along the beach after dinner while enjoying the cold air. Hub likes it because he claims it’s the only exercise I do. hahaha..

Restaurant le Festival de la Mer is one of my favorite place to go for dinner here. Main Reason, I LOVE seafood !!! And if you are in a seaside town, how can you not have seafood, right? Second Reason, I love the friendly services here. Not to mention, they have english menu ! hehehee…

Ta – Da !!! Look at the huge seafood platter for 2 !!! yum yum yum… it’s so fresh and you can practically taste the sea.

We ordered a Rosé (Chateau de Roquefeuille) to go with our meal… love it. very nice after taste and went really well with the seafood.

Hub ordered the parma ham savings with rock melon. It was really good.

And also ordered Spaghetti alla vongole and Lamb with french bean.

By then, we were so stuff we couldn’t possibly try the desserts.

Sorry for the poor quality in pictures as I only use my phone camera.

Please check out their website for more details and clearer pictures. (btw, I just check their website and found that the menu is slightly different from when we ate there. Maybe they change seasonally ?)
