Update – 1st Nov 2012 :

Dearest Groupon ppl,

If you are link here because of Groupon’s review, please note that I was not aware that they link my page to their review. Please understand that the review given below is my OWN personal opinion and I got it from a regular shop… Thanks !

My ol ye faithful Sony cybershot camera went crazy after 2 years but it was still useable. So, I didn’t bother to replace it. However, on my recent trip toMelbourne, it went missing and hub and I couldn’t figure out where we left it.

So, for the last few months, I have been snapping pictures with my mobile. It was really frustrating as pictures are not consistent and it is really hard to capture anything without flash at night.

I finally drag myself to a camera shop last Friday to try and replace myself with another camera. My requirements – it must be less than RM 1,000 and must be easy to use. The lady instantly showed me the Samsung PL151 camera. I was a little sceptical since Samsung is not a brand synonym to high quality camera. But with a price of RM 899 (comes with a 4G card, one spare battery and protective screen sticker for the LCD at the back) – how can I refuse this bargain, right? Not to mention, I was quite suckers in when she show me the front LCD.

Since I need to travel a lot (by myself), I am used to taking pictures of myself with the scenery. This gets a little tricky. It’s not easy to get the correct tilt, angle and wondering if you capture everything until after you click away. With this baby, I can adjust it until everything looks good before I click.

So, I bought it. Yay !!!   These pictures here are taken with my mobile. See how blur it is. sigh… I’m looking forward to getting nice pictures so that I could also post them on my blog. ;p

I rarely (almost never) venture into Klang area for food. Perhaps many Klang-ians would be shocked as most believe that good and tasty foods are found there. (i.e. Bak Kut Teh / Seafood)

Anyway, yesterday I had the opportunity to venture to Klang and a friend kindly show Chulet and her bro to a nice restaurant for lunch. The Restaurant frontage seems small and ordinary. Luckily the restaurant is air-conditioned as it was a really hot day. Once seated inside, our friend started ordering dishes in Hokkien (which I don’t understand at all). Patiently, I waited to be surprise as this friend loves good food and most of his recommendations are always thumbs up.

While waiting for our food, I look around and found that this restaurant won a lot of award. They went for Bak-Kut-Teh competition, Hainam Chicken Rice competition and received recognition from the Tourism Ministry ! Wow… ! wow !!

We start off with a bowl of mee-sua with ho-chien. (rice noodle with oyster). The soup looks a little starchy but once you scoop into individual bowl. Add in a dash of vinegar and some chilli sauce. It was really good. The oysters are fresh and the noodles are really smooth and not too soggy.

The next on the hit list is the fried sliced noodle. This is a specialty of the shop. The noodle consistency kind of resembles the rat’s tail (loh-see-fun) but with more stickiness to it. It was fried like the fried kueh teow style. I really like this as the taste is very fragrant.

Next is the chicken rice ball (which was HUGE – at least double the normal size you get in Melaka). The chicken ordered was fried salted kampong chicken. Really yummy as the skin was not only crispy, it was full of flavour from marinating the chicken.

Apart from these, we order stir-fry Brinjal with Long bean and Fried Lobak.

For dessert we had deep fried chocolate ice-cream !!

It was a satisfying and delicious lunch indeed… Thanks T for bringing us there and treating us too (What a generous soul !!!)

French toast with Raspberry Sauce

breakfast, french toast, raspberry sauce

Last night after dinner, I had a sudden French toast craving for breakfast. And for those of you who work, you would know how nearly impossible it is, unless you are willing to wake up at 6am. Cook breakfast (30mins), head to shower (your hair and whole body reeks of oil / butter smell) and then come back to have breakfast. Leave the house by 7:45am.

I am not sure about you guys but I am NOT a morning person. I hate getting out of bed. Hence, if I want breakfast, I rather cook it the night before (since I am feeling generous, hub will get a share too – he so lucky, eh?).

Ingredients for Raspberry sauce

  • ¼ cup of castor sugar
  • 2 tbsp of brown sugar (to add flavour)
  • ½ cup of water
  • 2 packets of berry

** you can use any types of berry you want. I use one packet of raspberry and one packet of gooseberry because I love the dark ruby red colour from the combination of these 2 berries.

Crush the berries with the back of the fork. Melt all the sugar into the pot with water. Once everything melted, pour in the crush berries and bring to boil for about 5-8 minutes. You should be getting a sort of yogurty-like texture. Taste if it is sweet enough for you. I don’t really like it too sweet as I love the slight sourish berry taste. So, if you don’t think it’s sweet enough, feel free to add sugar. But, remember, this sauce is usually use over dessert. Pour everything into a sieve to get the juice out. This will keep the seeds away. Let it cool down before you keep in a clean and DRY jar. You can keep this in the fridge for about 5-6 days. Remember to always scoop it with a clean dry spoon. (I love this sauce over vanilla ice-cream !!)

Ingredients for French toast

  • 6 slice of white bread – slightly stale is better.
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla essence
  • Icing sugar

Beat the eggs, milk and vanilla essence until all is incorporated. Soak the bread in the eggy-mixture. Heat up the pan in low heat (don’t use high heat as this will cook the outside fast without cooking the inside). Place in some butter and vege oil. Pick up the bread and place into the pan. Let it cook until brown on one side before flipping it over. Continue until all the bread finish cooking. Lay the bread out and dust it with icing sugar.

Once the French toast cool down, I pack everything into 2 container and place them into the fridge.

The next morning, the container goes into the microwave for 40 seconds. Take it out and place onto the plate. Finish with a generous drizzle of raspberry sauce.

Yuummm…yummm. My day is brighter already this morning. 🙂

Quick update:

Message from hub – The french toast is good. Not too oily and not too sweet. Just the way I like. (Yay ! chulet happy. heehee..)

** Hub usually leave home around 7:30am. So, he took the container to work and heat it in the microwave there…
